How to take care of a tuxedo cat

Tuxedo cat requires no special treatment, you will need to take care of the same way you would do to any other cat of its breed.

Generally, cats are very independent therefore requires less responsibility than some other animals. Cats are indeed independent by nature but that doesn’t mean that they can fully take care of themselves. Before bringing a cat home, make sure that your lifestyle can make room for your cat very well.

Your cat has a long and healthy life with proper care. Here are some tips on how to take care of your cat properly.

  • PROVIDE AND ENCOURAGE YOUR CAT TO USE A LITTER BOX

All indoor cats need a litter box that should be kept in a clean and quiet spot where the cat won’t be bothered. The litter box should be kept clean all the time because cats won’t use a messy, smelly litter box. Also, provide enough litter box for more than one cat, if you have two cats, three litter boxes should be provided and should be kept in different spots of the house. Bear in mind that brands of litter boxes shouldn’t be switched because cats hate sudden changes.

  • GROOM YOUR CAT REGULARLY

Cats are usually considered to be very neat however that does not mean that cats do not need regular grooming. Regular brushing or combing of cat’s hair helps to keep it clean and reduces the amount of shedding. It also helps to remove the dead hair from its coat so that it won’t ingest it while self-grooming. Grooming a short hair cat is easier than long-haired, one should bear in mind that it is not advisable to use a brush on a long-haired cat as it might not brush it very well. A good comb is recommendable. Grooming also gives you a chance to notice any changes in its body and irregularities such as lumps, bumps, or sore spots.

  • PROVIDE AND TRAIN YOUR CAT TO USE A SCRATCHING POST

Provide your cat with a sturdy scratching post of three feet high, the post should be stable and should be covered with a rough material. Cats need to scratch, it is normal behavior that nothing can be done about it. Providing a good scratching post will help to prevent the cat from scratching up furniture, woodwork etcetera. It will also help the cat to stretch its muscles and keep its claws in top condition.

  • KEEP YOUR CAT’S TEETH CLEAN

Cats do suffer from dental disease and like humans develop tartar on their teeth. This bacteria in the teeth can enter the bloodstream and cause other diseases therefore, it is necessary to brush their teeth. Cats can’t brush their teeth and sometimes won’t allow their owners to do so. In other to keep your cat’s teeth in a good condition, schedule a cleaning with your veterinarian at least once every year. However, if your cat allows you to brush its teeth, never you use human toothpaste. Too much fluoride in human toothpaste can upset your cat’s stomach.

  • SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR CAT

Spaying a female cat or neutering a male cat has many benefits. It will prevent uterine infections, ovarian cancers, and breast tumors in females and prevent testicular cancer and prostate problems in males. It also reduces roaming and prevents unwanted pregnancies.

  • SCHEDULE A YEARLY VET VISITS

Unlike humans, cats can’t say when they are sick, as a result of that, it is necessary to take him to a veterinarian at least once a year for medical checkup. An annual visit gives room to treat any feline disease in their early stages.

In addition, cats need attention and you should provide plenty of human companionships.
